New ‘Targeting Zero’ Initiative

Author: K.Meadows  January 21, 2011

The group APIC.org has added to its original “Targeting Zero” campaign which is aiming to eliminate healthcare associated infections.

The new initiative is “I Believe in Zero CLABSIs.” Central line associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs) were shown to be preventable in 2003 in the Michigan Hospital Association Keystone Project.

WETKEYS.com is also helping “Target Zero” by providing consumers with waterproof/disinfectable keyboards. Our products can be cleaned between users to cut down on cross-contamination. Stop by our site and get yours today!

Importance of High Touch Cleaning

Author: K.Meadows  December 13, 2010

Hello all!

The CDC wrote a nice piece on the importance of implementing cleaning programs for “high touch” areas. This means places like keyboard terminals where the general public shares the same keyboard with everyone else. Here is a clip from the article:

“In view of the evidence that transmission of many healthcare acquired pathogens (HAPs) is related to contamination of near-patient surfaces and equipment, all hospitals are encouraged to develop programs to optimize the thoroughness of high touch surface cleaning as part of terminal room cleaning at the time of discharge or transfer of patients. ”

We encourage everyone to read the entire article on Evaluating Environmental Cleaning in regards to high touch areas.

You can also visit WETKEYS.com to get your personal waterproof and disinfectable keyboard so you can implement a personal cleaning plan just like the CDC recommends for hospitals.

This was written by the Lexington Herald Leader today regarding the name change of HAIs:

...What's more, HAIs (hospital acquired infections) are common enough in all health-care settings, not just hospitals, to warrant a name change. They are now recognized by the Centers for Disease Control as "health care associated infections." The name change may seem innocuous, or perhaps a bit defensive on the part of hospitals sensitive to public relations. But on a deeper level, it's disturbing that rather than defeat the infection threat, we've renamed it to capture its expanding footprint.

It is imperative that you urge hospitals to reduce the amount of healthcare associated infections. A product like the one we produce can do just that. Our keyboards and mice can be disinfected between users and vastly reduce that amount of cross-containmenation.

A Solution To Your Medical Keyboard Needs

Author: K.Meadows  August 6, 2010

Laboratories need to be extremely stable environments, and strict hygiene protocols are enforced at all times to maintain an uncompromised test center.

WETKEYS vendor, iKey, makes keyboards that are designed with disinfection in mind. The durable rubber can withstand bleach cleaning or a pressure wash. Low-profile keys and a completely sealed design make cleaning a quick and efficient process – simply wipe or spray down the site.

WETKEYS recommends: iKey medical input devices for all your medical keyboard needs.

We Are “Targeting Zero”

Author: K.Meadows  July 22, 2010

The APIC has launched an initiative called Targeting Zero.

Targeting Zero is an effort to eliminate all healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). The goal is bold but possible.

WETKEYS is aiding the effort by producing washable and disinfectable keyboards and mice. Any hospital that equipped itself with our keyboards would be able to disinfect them between users. This could cut down on HAIs dramatically. And reducing and eliminating HAIs is something we all deserve and should demand.

So help WETKEYS and the APIC in Targeting Zero by asking more from your healthcare system. You can become a WETKEYS affiliate today and spread the word!
